Camp Wamp - Wheelchair Adventure Mountain Programs

Camp WAMP provides enriching summer disabled camping programs for kids with physical disabilities such as Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Cord Injuries and Cerebral Palsy.

Surrounded by towering pine trees and located in the beautiful Sierra County Mountains near Lake Tahoe, Camp WAMP's disabled camping programs are nestled in the High Sierras, 40 miles north of Truckee and 250 miles northeast of San Francisco.

For Campers and Counselors alike, it’s a place and time to nurture independence, encourage responsibility and build lifelong friendships. Those who have participated agree the experience and interactions made strong positive impacts on their lives.

Camp WAMP's disabled camping programs hosts a Professional Camp Director, a Certified Registered Nurse, an Arts and Crafts Director, a Water Front Safety Instructor, a Campfire and Nature Director and one Counselor for each Camper. Also on site are dining facilities with two cooks, a permanent wheelchair accessible bathroom facility and infirmary.

Activities include fishing, swimming, boating, arts and crafts, nature walks and other special educational outdoor hands-on activities. For children with disabilities, wheelchair camping at Camp Wamp is a time to learn that they are not alone and that there are other children who have disabilities similar or identical to their own.

Camping for children with disabilities at Camp Wamp includes seven-day, wheelchair camping sessions that run from mid August each year at our Hawley Lake facility. In addition, other programs are being evaluated and if they meet the high Camp WAMP standards, each will be allocated a number of free sponsored camperships.
